Our Tokyo (I)
The LAND OF SUSHI, as we like to call it, is a bustling cosmopolitan city and the centre of Japan's culture and finance. Toyko happens to be one of our favourite cities and we will be sharing our humble experience of our trip to Toyko.
Travelling can be an exciting yet daunting experience for a young couple. NOT TO WORRY, we are here to provide you with our very own version of the Tokyo experience and we hope that some of this information will come in handy to you should you visit Tokyo someday!
As we set foot in tokyo, we could almost hear sushi calling us out: "EAT ME! EAT ME!!!!!" Before we even cleared immigration, we were raring to gulp down a bowl of piping hot Ramen and devour plates of sushi. This is what Toyko does to you! It makes you feel like you could potentially be transformed into a glutton, and you'd be like, totally okay with that. We were dashing out of the Airport as soon as we collected our luggages..........................
BUT WAIT, we realized that something was missing --- OUR CAMERA. We had left our camera on the plane.......
To cut the story short, we managed to retrieve our camera with some help. Thank God. Moral of the story, you guys..... please make sure you have everything with you before you alight from the airplane. Do not be blinded by the greed for Japanese food hur hur.
Anyway, here's how we spent our day!
FIRST STOP: SHINJUKU
Shinjuku houses several large department stores such as Takashimaya, Isetan, Keio, Odakyu and Mitsukoshi. If you are a gourmand, check out the basements of all these stores where you can find tons of food and snacks. If you are keen on electronics, Shinjuku is the perfect place for you. Electronic stores (Yodobashi & BIC Camera) offering major discounts are located in the heart of Shinjuku and the prices there are extremely competitive. For example, a camera lens here costs about 20% cheaper as compared to prices in Singapore. However, do take note that different stores specialize in different gadgets, so please do your homework before you head over!
(With Russ and our fans haha!)
Shinjuku is also home to Tokyo's largest red light district (Kabukicho). Kabukicho features hunrdreds of resturants, massage parlours, bars and nightclubs. If you are travelling ALONE and would like to explore somewhere more interesting, Kabukicho might be a good place to go to! Hehe #justsaying
Although Kabukicho has its shady side, it was where we had one of the best Ramen in Tokyo thus far. Menya Musashi is one of the best ramen shops in Tokyo and this was the bowl of ramen we've been eagerly searching for. The soup was fantastically rich in flavour, the meat was so tasty (think melts-in-your-mouth kind of good) and the noodles were just al dente! (it's better than Ippudo in our opinion)
(Number 1 Ramen at Menya Musashi)
(Bamboo shoots & Ajitsuke Tamago)
We're just extremely exhausted from all the walking today. Hope you guys enjoyed our very first post. Stay tuned for the next post (Our Tokyo II: Food Adventure)
